Are you planning to do any after-holiday shopping? As early as December 20th, online stores were marking down their Christmas items up to 50%, but not a penny more.
Months before the holidays, I scoured a Pier 1 Imports catalog and folded down a few pages. One item in particular was about $15 and I didn’t want to buy five of them at that price. I thought I’d wait till after the holiday to buy it at half-price, and what do you know? It’s not on the website as of today! The risks you take to potentially save yourself some money.
TJ Maxx cashier: Did you find everything you were looking for?
Me: First of all, I wasn’t looking for any of this.
I must not be feeling well the past two days. I’ve gotten online at some of my favorite shops for pre-holiday items and nothing is screaming “buy me!” We ordered next year’s holiday cards yesterday, on our way to Christmas dinner. But other than that, there is nothing I want that I can live without.
What about you? Did you get up early this morning and buy one of those eight-foot tall inflatable snowmen for your front lawn? For many years, we would take off 12/26 and stand in line at Hallmark and Target for half-price items. But times have changed and, of course, I don’t need an eight-foot snowman at the front door of my condo.
