Prepping the 60 Blog

I have trouble with four-letter words:  cook, wash, iron, dust.

Today was a day to clean.  The day before the day to cook.  The day before the big food day.  I went through a few piles of paperwork.  Since I’ve been out-of-work, my desk is now the dining room table and a canvas square box full of file folders and notepads. I went through old to-do lists; thankfully, many of those to-do items were indeed done!  I’m now left with a notebook and a few lists, and I’ll tackle those by the end of the holiday weekend.

But Leslie will be home from work soon and she’ll wonder what I did all day.  Harumph.  “Plenty!” I say on the inside.  Five piles have become one and I have the perfect place to hide it until Sunday.

Leslie and I are going to make the desserts, cranberry relish and stuffing tomorrow.  Hopefully, Thursday we will have nothing to do but pick up the turkey dinner and turn on the oven.  And eat, of course.

At this time of year, I’m reminded of this:  We all get heavier as we get older because there’s a lot more information in our heads.  So I’m just really intelligent and my head couldn’t hold any more so it started filling up the rest of me.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

So this Thanksgiving, will you eat until even your yoga pants are too tight?  Or will you claim that your couple extra pounds represents the things you learned at the dinner table, i.e., the state-of-the-country with our new president, the difference between stuffing and dressing, football tidbits (do the Detroit Lions play every Thanksgiving?), or what kind of champagne to serve with turkey?

I’m going with the extra knowledge.  My doctor won’t ever have to know.
