Audrey Hepburn:  I believe in manicures.  I believe in overdressing.  I believe in primping at leisure, and wearing lipstick.

In keeping with my promise to learn something new every day, I thought I would share some information with you.  Do you know how the Glue Stick was invented?   Aboard a plane in the 1960s, German chemist Wolfgang Dierichs dreamed up the idea for a glue stick while watching a woman apply lipstick.  He found it to be convenient and it eliminated messy paste pots or brushes.  The idea stuck.  Be sure to share this useless fact with your family at Christmas.

I met some friends for lunch today and we exchanged little Christmas gifts.  May gave me a gift bag full of cosmetics.  May is an avid collector of makeup and has earned premier levels at Sephora (VIB rouge), Ulta (Platinum), and MAC (Obsessed).  To reach those levels, May has to spend a certain amount of money each year, and I applaud her for her spending.  I’m sure Sephora, Ulta and MAC are grateful too.

Being a preferred customer, May receives lots and lots of free and discounted makeup.  After she keeps what she wants, and gives other items to family members and friends, she puts the unwanted items in a box for others to choose from.  A few months ago, I put post-its on a Gwen Stefani lipstick and an eyeshadow palette, and I was sure that would be my Christmas present.

But no.  Instead of two items, May gave me about twenty items.  Maybe thirty.  Between Leslie and me, we chose about a dozen items to keep.  And the rest will be wrapped up for the best-girl-on-earth, my niece, Marissa.  Shhh, don’t tell her!
