Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. Philosophy is wondering if that means ketchup is a smoothie.
Are you aware how often you’re aware? Truly aware?
I had a dental cleaning today. I tried to stay calm driving to the office as it started to rain. Drivers in Southern California forget how to drive when water falls from the sky. My regular 25-minute drive took 45 minutes and I arrived late. But the office staff is cool and Marie was waiting for me. Gloves and face mask and ready to go.
I decided to be mindful and aware during the cleaning. I paid attention to everything. The Christmas music. HGTV on the TV in the room. The sound of the picks and water spray. The feel of the water as it sprayed my face. It was a different experience for me. The procedure took about 45 minutes, yet it felt like 10 minutes. I wasn’t stressed or worried about anything….and my teeth are clean!
Our regular dentist retired in June and I finally met his replacement today. Very nice and knowledgeable. As I was greeting her, who should visit but our “old” dentist. He came by the office to pick up his mail and say hello. Now that he’s not working in a professional capacity, he gave me a hug for the holidays. Leslie will be so jealous!
