Working the 60 Blog

At some point, you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.

Day two of being a working girl is over.  More training, more learning, and more proving to myself that I know what I’m doing after working in the legal field for 35+ years.

The workday flies by.  This local office of a national firm has numerous shortcuts and prepared documents that I have never seen before.  To me, it looks like their star word processor spent a lot of time merging documents and creating easy and invaluable ways for the legal executive assistants to do their job.

I started my legal career with an international law firm, and continued working for several more when we moved to California.  In 2002, one of my partners opened his firm, and I gladly joined him to help the start-up grow.  At the time, it was a big change for me to go from a multi-office firm to having to order trash cans and staplers when we opened up shop.  And now, even on a temporary basis, I enjoy being back at a large law firm.

I know that, for those of you who don’t work in the law, this sounds foreign.  My law firm colleagues will understand the meaning of having someone scan your documents or prepare your overnight mail.  (Back when I started in the late 70s, our staff helped us send faxes and made sure we always had ribbons for our electric typewriters.)

I am enjoying the work day, but that alarm goes off way too early in the morning.
