Sensing the 60 Blog

Image result for irritating habit

I am under no obligation to make sense to you.

I went to a new doctor today.  I chose her from the physician directory based on her location and the added bonuses of her being “only” 45 and a female.  The medical building is hidden off the main street and I noticed a coffee shop on the ground floor.  Nice!

The office is large and has about a dozen doctors.  When I was taken in the back to a waiting room, the dreaded scale was in a corner, and it was, of course, my first stop.  Then on to test other vitals and in came the doctor.  A lovely woman (I noticed the Jamberry wraps on her nails!) who asked me questions about my prior medical history and we discussed current issues.  We talked about a plan (I’m going to try going gluten free for a few days….wish me luck!) and, after every few comments, she’d ask me some variation of “Does that make sense?”

I get it.  The doctor doesn’t know me.  She doesn’t know if I’m smart or stupid, if I understand basic instructions, or even if I understand English.  But it was getting a bit repetitive.  She probably asked me “Does that make sense?” a dozen times in a half hour.

I don’t believe she asked the question out of an abundance of caution.  I think it’s a habit, and she’s not aware of even saying it often.  Is the office staff aware of this irritation?  Are they even irritated?

Could you overlook something like this?  Obviously, I’m not going to say anything to her, but really?

  1. Caryn, I am so super guilty of asking this very question! So, from the other side of the equation – I personally ask because sometimes what’s in my brain and what comes out of my mouth are WILDLY DIFFERENT THINGS. lol So I’m really just checking to make sure the ADHD hasn’t made me babble.

That aside, I don’t think it’s improper to point it out to her. Like “yes, it makes sense, and I’ll make a deal with you – if you say something that DOESN’T make sense to me, I’ll let you know.” Maybe? IDK. Hugs to you. ❤
