Groaning the 60 Blog

Ashleigh Brilliant:  If you must keep groaning, please try to do it in a rhythm I can dance to.

I stood up today from my desk chair and heard a familiar creaking sound.  Two coworkers walking by were talking about the same thing.  You get older and you make noise when you move.  I’m not happy about it.  I know there are things I can change, but is it wrong for me to just want things to magically change by themselves?

I recently realized I’m the oldest staff member here.  Probably a couple bosses older than me, but I’m trudging along as an oldie.  I remember the Beatles, manual typewriters, mag cards, small computer screens with a flashing green icon (that was the most color you’d find on your display!), and a memory.

Today, I saw a Facebook post touting the new “retro-themed mechanical keyboard.”  The return bar functions as an ENTER key, and you can program it to record macros.   The keys feature “typewriter inspired keycaps. With its concave surface and touch-type support, it’s equally ergonomic and beautiful.” The company is out to make “typing fun again!”  Check it out at qwertywriter.com.

And now I’m thinking of all those Etsy designers who make jewelry out of old typewriter keys who are now going to have to find something else to make.

But who wants to go back in time?  My sister recently had a conversation with some friends and asked “Did you know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?”  These gals didn’t know Wings, didn’t know the Beatles, and barely recognized the name Paul McCartney.  True, the Beatles first came to America in 1964, and that was 53 years ago. However, their music, to me, is timeless.  Maybe not “Rocky Raccoon,” but definitely “Yesterday”:  it’s a classic.  How could someone NOT know that music?

Are you reminded of your age every day?  By a person or by a noisy joint?  Do you wish you could go back in time?

  1. First, Steven Universe is currently on the TV in my office, so that picture makes me smile.

Second, my children (25 and under) are VERY familiar with The Beatles. Now, could they name any of them individually? I’m not sure, so I’m going to rectify THAT tomorrow. LOL
