Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey, House of Cards):  If you don’t like how the table is set, turn over the table. (Season 2, Episode 2)

What makes you happy?  Do you share your happiness with others?  Spread your happiness around like sunshine?

One thing that makes me happy (even just a little bit) is crossing things off my to-do list.  Every night and sometimes in the car the next morning, I write a list of things to be done the next day.  “Did we win Power Ball?”  “Check status of prescriptions.”  “What about the Honda CR-V?”  Notepads everywhere the eye can see.  I remember a time, of course, when I didn’t have to write anything down.  I would just recall what needed to be done.  Not anymore.

Scratching things off my list is a little thing, yet it feels good when I throw away that scrap of paper.  I can then go on to other things that make me happy:  buying a new mascara, strolling through a Hallmark store and stocking up on “real” cards, finishing a series binge on Netflix.

Yes, as of today, we have just two episodes left to the finish of House of Cards, Season 5.  Outstanding acting, devious plot twists (some of which may even be playing out in real life), great locales, many delusions and illusions.

Have you watched the series?  If not, and you plan to binge watch it, set aside a weekend to watch one season.  Take a break, digest it, discuss it.  Then watch the next season a week or two later.  And so on.  You can’t possibly watch almost 65 hours of intense television and understand it all if you watch the whole series over, say, seven days in a row.  First, you’d have to take a week’s vacation from work.  Load up on caffeine, snacks and toilet paper.  And then not leave your house.  My most important piece of advice?  Watch it with someone. That way, after each episode, you can ask your fellow TV watcher, “what the hell just happened?”
