Anna LeMind: The older you get, the more you realize you have no desire for drama, conflict and any kind of intensity. You just want a cozy home, a nice book, and a person who knows how you drink your coffee.
We discussed a lovely book at yesterday’s book club and we all agreed that Fannie Flagg is quite the storyteller. Read The Whole Town’s Talking when you have a chance.
Now for our monthly writing exercise. We were given the word birthday and were told to write one sentence. Then we redistributed the papers and finished another’s story. Here’s what we came up with yesterday:
No. 1: I was wearing my birthday suit when the cable guy arrived.
No. 2: I wasn’t sure what to do, so we went to my bedroom and had awesome sex.
No. 1: It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in October and it was the beautiful Leslie’s birthday. While enjoying the Greek food, the door bell rand and…
No. 2: I ran to open the door and there he was. Colin Firth! Holding a rose and wanting to know where Walmart was. Of course, I had to go.
No. 1: Birthdays are like underwear. Always with you and better behind you.
No. 2: My behind is too big to fit in your underwear.
No. 1: 12:01 a.m.. The sound of Facebook alerts sounded and the birthday celebration began as I rolled over and fell back to sleep.
No. 2: I was hoping for more Facebook alerts than last year. But I think I’m going to be disappointed.
No. 1: Birthdays should be happy times, but this year I am sad. This birthday is when I found the retired club and it made me sad.
No. 2: But then I considered the alternative! What could be better than working while you’re alive?
No. 1: I was so surprised when I passed away on my birthday and got to catch up with friends who had passed before me.
No. 2: Then I realized the odds of being born and dying on the same day must be very small.
No. 1: It was the man’s 98th birthday. He woke up sweating. Today was the day. He began to shake uncontrollably.
No. 2: Then he remembered it was veal parmigiana day. All good!
The moral of this story is: celebrate your birthday with friends and you’ll laugh all day long!
