Last night, we enjoyed several fireworks displays from a friend’s backyard. She’s lived in the house for several years and, while we can see fireworks from about half a dozen cities from our comfy seats, there’s a tree that’s directly in front of the City of Laguna Hills’ impressive display.
Homeowners have complained about it, yet every year we sit there and watch the fireworks through tree branches. I know, things could be worse. For instance, I might be forced to watch fireworks on television, which just doesn’t translate to seeing the lights in person.
Laguna Hills’ display is presented by the City and maybe the local high school. There are several bands playing throughout the day and people picnic on the City Hall grounds. At 9:00, pretaped music starts (“Born in the USA,” “I’m Proud to be an American”) and the fireworks are almost perfectly timed to the music. This year, we saw some new fireworks, like hearts and letters, and the best part was this:
Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” was timed to fireworks that should spell USA, except someone made a tiny error. We’re now Partying in the U-A-S!
Again, things could be worse, but it gave us a laugh as we sang along.
We had a nice day of enjoying appetizers, ribeye steaks on the grill, and cherry pie for dessert. But alas, the party has to end some time. Wednesday night fireworks means it’s a school night, and I had to get home to squeeze in some quality sleep before getting up for work today. The other party goers are either not working or have flexible start times. I was the only one who needed to watch the clock.
