If you look at one of those preprinted calendars, they typically have holidays highlighted in yellow to remind you that it’s maybe a federal holiday or another holiday that you just can’t forget.
SIDE NOTE: I worked for an attorney years ago who claimed he didn’t get me a Christmas gift because he forgot it was Christmas. Now, of course, I didn’t need or want the gift, but how can one forget it’s Christmas? It wasn’t because he practiced a religion that didn’t observe the holiday. He just DIDN’T KNOW that the decorations and trees and holiday music all over the damn place were alerting him to something. Clueless bonehead.
But back to normal (and not-so-normal) holidays. On a preprinted calendar, you’ll note that August is blank. Not a holiday to be had! Oh, you can be sure that some creative companies and individuals thought of some holidays just to get us out of bed in the morning.
Today is International Beer Day, so I suggest you visit your favorite watering hole tonight to celebrate. And remember, it’s international!
Wednesday, August 8 is International Cat Day. Get ready for cuteness overload with all the cat pictures you’ll see on Facebook and Instagram that day!
Friday, August 10 is National S’mores Day, so stock up on Hershey bars and marshmallows. You’ll be glad you did.
Monday, August 13 is Left-Handers Day. I’m not sure if this day is celebrated domestically or internationally, but you can probably have some fun calling out any left handers that day.
Thursday, August 16 is National Rum Day. Nothing says “I like Thursdays” than bringing a festive rum-based drink to work.
Friday, August 24 is National Waffle Day. I’m sure Waffle House and/or IHOP will be happy to serve you.
Sunday, August 26 is National Dog Day. Once again, cats have proven they’re superior because the entire international cat community celebrates earlier this month. And you need to get ready for more social media cuteness.
