Did you enjoy National Bagel Day today? Did your coworkers appreciate the bagels and cream cheese you brought in to celebrate? Yeah, I didn’t make it to the bagel shop on time either.
You have a few more chances to make it right with friends and coworkers later this month. Sunday, February 11 is National Make a Friend Day. Here’s what you do: Take your dog for a walk and end up at your local Einstein Bros. Bagel shop. There, take advantage of their weeklong free breakfast. Sit outside the shop, enjoy the late winter weather, and make conversation with other dog owners. You’ll make new friends in no time!
On Saturday, February 17, you can easily celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day. Pay for the person behind you in the Starbucks drive-thru or be sure to hold the door open for people arriving at the door at the same time as you. Several years ago, Leslie and I were at a great deli/restaurant and a National Guardsman was in line at the bakery buying a birthday cake. We struck up a conversation and then we insisted on paying for the cake. He was very grateful and even posed for a picture with us! What other suggestions do you have to practice a random act of kindness next week?
Monday, February 26 is National Tell a Fairy Tale Day. Perhaps you can find events at your local library where volunteers are reading stories and fairy tales. Or seek out events sponsored by The National Storytelling Network. They are dedicated to advancing the art of storytelling – as a performing art, a process of cultural transformation, and more.
I attended a conference years ago and we were treated to stories read by a professional storyteller. Honestly, you don’t even know you’ve missed out on this experience until you’ve listened to stories told by passionate, knowledgeable narrators.
