Friendships must be built on a solid foundation of alcohol, sarcasm, inappropriateness, and shenanigans.
Before we head to Las Vegas on Sunday to celebrate the BIG 6-0, we played our monthly “home bingo” this evening. Eight of the regulars played tonight and six of us will be paying professional bingo next week. Tonight was just a warm-up for the real thing.
I was on a losing streak a good part of the night but ended up going home with a bit of cash. I’ll put that cash away so I can pay for bunco next week. Perhaps we have a gambling problem. Or we just like to hang out with each other. I think it’s the latter.
Most of our bunco and bingo friends have known each other for years. Most of us are in the legal field and some of us are retired. (I’m the unemployed one for now.) We all get along well, even though our political views differ. And that’s where the alcohol and shenanigans come in.
Nine of us will be playing in the two-day bingo tournament at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas. Some of us have played there before, and I’ve always envied large groups of friends cheering for each other and celebrating winning. This year, I hope to have eight rowdy friends cheering me on when I win big.
And I have to set aside a little time each night to write the 60 Blog. I don’t want you to miss out on any of the fun.
